Welcoming Repatriated Haitians with Dignity: Join Our Collection Drive

Passengers arriving at Cap-Haïtien International Airport

In response to the growing number of Haitians being repatriated to the country, United for Women Empowerment (U4WE), the Fondation Alfred Béliard (FAB), and the AmCham Women’s Network have joined forces to offer them a more humane, dignified, and organized welcome in Cap-Haïtien.

Many returnees arrive in difficult circumstances, with very few personal belongings, and must quickly meet essential needs for hygiene, first aid, orientation, and reintegration. This initiative rests on a simple principle: repatriated people are, above all, our compatriots, and they deserve to be welcomed with dignity, respect, and solidarity.

A Collective Effort

The initiative is led jointly by U4WE, the Fondation Alfred Béliard, and the AmCham Women’s Network, with the support of private-sector partners Haiti Shipping Cargo (HSC) and Tito.ht, as well as other businesses and individuals who wish to contribute.

Our goal is to build genuine collaboration between community organizations, the private sector, and public authorities, so that the help provided is structured, effective, and adapted to the real needs of repatriated people.

How the Initiative Works

  1. Mobilization and collection: raising awareness among businesses, organizations, and citizens, and collecting hygiene and first-aid supplies at our drop-off points.
  2. Coordination: working with the relevant authorities and partners to obtain the access and authorizations needed to assist returnees on arrival at Cap-Haïtien International Airport, and to organize logistics and distribution.
  3. Welcome and assistance: being present when returnees arrive in Cap-Haïtien to hand over the collected supplies and offer a first, respectful welcome.
  4. Needs assessment: a short questionnaire, taking less than three minutes, to better understand the profiles and immediate needs of the people we welcome and to guide the next steps of the initiative.

An Initiative That Will Grow

This collection is a first step. Our ambition is to gradually build a more structured response based on the needs observed on the ground. Beyond immediate material aid, our organizations intend to mobilize their networks, time, and expertise to identify forms of support that can help repatriated people reintegrate.

This initiative rests on a shared conviction: no single actor can respond to this situation alone. It calls for the collective mobilization of public authorities, civil society, the private sector, and the community. Learn more about how to get involved with U4WE.
